An Alaskan vacation wouldn’t be complete without exploring the marine and coastal wildlife by kayak. Our guests at the Ridgewood have several kayaking activities to choose from
Hiking & Glacier KayakingAfter a moderate hike to the shoreline of Grewingk Glacier Lake, take in the panoramic view of an ancient glacier carved into a mountain valley with towering peaks and alpine meadows - the flowers in this valley are particularly interesting. Load up the kayaks and paddle amongst the icebergs and the glacier up close and personal. Visit bird rookeries and glass for mountain goats and black bears. For this activity, bring layered clothing and a waterproof shell. Included in the cost of your stay.
Leisure Lake Fly-in Plus Kayaking & FishingAfter a flight over mountains and forests, you'll land on beautiful Leisure Lake and load up the kayaks and paddle through coves and drift the shoreline set in the midst of the towering peaks and hanging glaciers of the Kenai Peninsula Coast Mountain Range. These natural lakes host native rainbow trout. This tour combines a float plane with flight seeing, kayaking and fishing. For this activity, bring layered clothing and a waterproof shell. Please visit Flight Seeing for rates.
Guided Ocean KayakingKayaking on the ocean is an amazing experience and a chance to view the scenery and wildlife in a special way. We do not use typical sea-kayaks. Instead we use inflatable kayaks which have comfortable seats, a low center of gravity, and are extremely stable. Your guide will take you on a tour around the community of Halibut Cove, interpreting the sights and answering your questions. All you need is your camera and your enthusiasm - everything else is provided. All experience levels are welcome, and this tour is great family fun. Included in the cost of your stay.
