Alaska Bear Viewing

Alaska Bear Viewing

In 1978, along with our mentors and partners, we made as far as we know the first organized intentional effort to offer wildlife photographers the opportunity to photograph Alaska brown bears in their natural environment, fishing for salmon during the summer on remote rivers and streams in the Kamishak Bay, Cook Inlet region.

We established a camp 8 miles north of McNeil Cove and made daily trips to view the bears.  This was done by a small boat gaining access to the cove at high tide.  Once at McNeil we met with the Fish and Game personnel, to gain access to the McNeil Falls.

During these early years space was always available for those without a permit.  This was due to the sanctuary’s recent establishment and lack of knowledge by the public to the program.

Brown Bear Photography Camp

Four years later, we started Alaska Wildlife Photography Adventures, flying our guests directly to McNeil Sanctuary, visiting the falls and the surrounding area.

When it comes to Bear Photography we understand what you are looking for.  While staying at Alaska’s Ridgewood Wilderness Lodge we can book you out of Homer, with the best pilots and guides in Alaska.  These men and women are career professionals with exemplary safety records and knowledge in their field of interest.

While staying at the Ridgewood, you can combine your Brown Bear viewing with the opportunity to observe our local black bears here in Halibut Cove.  Because of the popularity these reservations need to be made in advance of the upcoming season.
